Only people with experience of both 3D Game Studio and Unity, please.
I'm having a hard time deciding with engine to learn, since I have college assignments and such - I won't get enough time to learn both. I started with 3dgs and after seeing some unity demos etc. I'm having second thoughts about 3dgs as unity seems so much more lightweight, stable, and yet powerful. I have read that it's not too appealing when it comes to network capabilities. I would also like to know if it's possible to make a MMORPG with unlimited players (clients) in Unity?
I really need help deciding which to stick with, but I can't choose both.
unity is powerful but I wouldnt rave about its stabililty. as far as unlimited players when would you find the time to manage such a thing. networking isnt difficult in unity but you should consider networking and managing two to four people. before you consider any more than that
There isn't a huge difference in these engines. If the MMO thing is important, you should probably stick with 3d Game Studio because the highest price version is one of the only engines that really supports unlimited players in a true MMO way. Most of the others are just multiplayer, however, I think that's better for most small time game developers because they can use the client for a server and not worry about maintaining a set of web servers which can cost thousands of dollars a year. Getting all spooked about which engine to use is really a waste of time. It doesn't really matter. What matters is game design, modeling, and programming skills.

However, looking for more. Whether finding the right engine is a waste of time or not is entirely subjective. For me it could save time (in days, months or an year) evaluating and learning each engine only to find that it does not fit my eventual needs.
Well, you should give A7 a chance, trust me, you'll never find a powerful and easy scripting language like Lite-C.

Unless things changed from a couple of months ago, no. Unity does not scale without a lot of tweaking. It can do multiplayer, and even then it's buggy, but not massively.
Don't know much about the practical limitations of vanilla A7.
