I am new to this forum and I'm old enough to be everyone's mom.
I got into electronic music when I bought a MIDI workstation in 1991 or 92 instead of a piano when my daughter was taking piano lessons. (I compose music for hobby, and now I'm taking programming classes, including game programming.)
I think more people are familiar with electronic/dance music than you might think.
If you go to the local Y you will find lots of classes with middle-aged ladies dancing and kickboxing to "techno" dance music. The music usually isn't the best, but it gets everyone moving and coming back for more.
If you go to the mall, you'll find many clothing stores (for teens and young adults) have techno-electronic music in the background, too. Most of it is pretty bad, too.
Someone has figured out that electronic music helps people get motivated when they exercise AND also motivates people to buy clothes. Lots of TV ads use electronic/dance music, too. Think Basement Jaxx- Moby, FatBoySlim, Paul Oakenfold, etc.
Moms buy games and some of them even play them... Electronic/Techno/Dance music is already "positioned" as background music. I'd like to hear more of it in games.
Just a thought.
ps. I like Laurent Garnier (Man with a Red Face, Wake Up), some of Carl Craig/Innerzone Orchestra, some of Gus Gus, some of Boards of Canada, some Sven Gath, etc. (I like other genres of music, too.)
