With all this hype about the Xbox 360 and yada yada, I thought it would be interesting to research the possibility of Console Development. I theorise it would be possible to take simple computer hardware, make a simple computer then program an Operating System that when a cd is entered, it triggers a program on the CD which runs the game...
Just an Idea i might follow through on as I have some background in OS dev. Any comments?
For nowaday's consoles, you're going to re-write linux/*bsd/whatever. The amount of driver support ect.. would just be too great. You're better off buying a build-your-own console kit, or just using the PC gaming platform.
Still, there's nothing stopping you from having a go.
Indeed, there isn't and as for the work load, i will advertise asking for people who are interested in helping...
There is an XBOX SDK
Gameboy Advanced (or all?) is in C
thats all i know off the top of my head
You see, i am not modifying an existing console, i am developing my own console, taking PC hardware, hopefully finding a way to rewrite a bios and building an OS over the top to run the games...
Like with programming, you need a set of beginner tutorials to start you off.
The abov elink is to Andre Lamoths Xgamestation...You'll want to start on that before fiddling around yourself...
thanks Twigstar, but unfortunately his E-Book is only available thru payment...
thanks guys, i will have a blog detailing my progress soon...
Cool. Make sure there is an RSS feed
Will do. Most likely using bblog.... Will you follow its progress?
Yep its up at http://kris.fr.funpic.org, please not also that i have a site at [www.consoledev.tk](www.consoledev.tk) that i am starting that will follow console dev and eventually host tutorials...
Your RSS feed has php errors in it, and I don't think it has the correct MIME type header.
In the feed:
