This is actually a follow-up post of sorts. A few years ago, I asked a question here regarding what platforms and languages might be best for a new MMORTS game that I was developing.
Granted, most posters didn't take me seriously--"MMORTS is too big for a startup project" was a pretty common sentiment. ...And really, who can blame them? It IS a big project, but the end is now in sight and I thought I'd return here, to where I started and let everyone know that it's actually happening.
If you're interested as a player, check out the website: Energematrice6: Diaspora or take a look at the video: What is E6 Diaspora?
If you're interested as a developer, I can tell you now that we're using HTML5 canvas for the front end for PC, using a custom game engine. (Our approach to a mobile client is still under consideration, but may be either HTML5 or may involve specific apps for android and apple systems). Our back end is written in node.js with mongodb and redis.
If you're interested in specifics, I'd love to talk about the game or its technologies. (Feel free to ask questions if you like.) You might also be interested in these blog posts (or any of our other blog topics--I write on game design quite a lot, from the general to the specific.) Now Hiring? and Still Hiring?
Would love to get a conversation going, either here or via some private form of communication if anybody is interested.
