I've made my choice: Dx or OpenGL Just wondered what the best books (aside from the standard Red one) are the best for starting off with OGL..?
Here are some books you'd probably like:
OpenGL SuperBible 2nd Edition
Computer Graphics using OpenGL
Real-Time Rendering (not specifically to opengl though)
If you're looking for game programming, I'd really recommend: 3D Game Engine Design : A Practical Approach to Real-Time Computer Graphic by David H. Eberly
I had my eye on that realtime one.
The superbible has had mixed reviews tho
OpenGL Game Programming. Excellent book. You can also download the source code, due to an error where many books were sent where the CD had no source code. Don't worry, if you buy it now it'll have the CD.
Imgo openGL game programming isnt that good, it skips alot of material... I think that first you should read Realtime REndering 2nd Edition, best graphics book ive read... And then you should probably read either openGL Game Programming or read some of NeHe's tutorials. I think that the openGL Reference books such as the red and blue books are more like reference material, not read from cover to cover material.
agreed. opengl game programming was my first book and though it was really helpful, i realized later that it did leave out a lot of important stuff.
well, I'd say it's OK for a newbie, or someone just starting out on OpenGL
Ah at last i can reply!!! tsk @ server or summet
ahem - thanks for the info all, will try and take a look at some of these before buying
oh, and those NeHe tutorials are nice too!
I'd say the Red Book and the Nehe tutorials would be all thats needed.
GT should be good too
