Not sure if i have suggested this before here but i would like develop a spider mmo , you woud start as a small spider when you spawn and the idea of the game is to make webs ,catch flys in them and grow, players would see that you get bigger because the server would save the scale sizes etc and the server would also save you're webs to so when you go back you can go on them and eat the flys, you might even be able to attack each other but spiders dont normally do that right?, would you guys like to see something like this?, i think it would make interesting gameplay as its all about survival and domination.
Have a look at the .NET Terrarium game. They did something along those lines, but it's a game for programmers, not the general public. You could expand on it by writing presets for spiders, insects, and plants. This is probably your best starting point.
I always like the idea of creating something that persists in the world when you're gone and the idea of slowly building up your "web". I like the idea of "Survival and domination" - especially if there was a mechanic that meant you could be "dominated" by other players but still be able to progress - for example, an "allying" system in which better players gain from you by protecting you and you give to them as you progress.
However, I struggle to visualise how this game would keep people coming back. That is, once you've mastered the basics of "Web building", what else is left? You get bigger and make bigger webs? Don't get me wrong, I think that your idea could work really well in a game, but as a game itself - maybe not.
However, if you are planning it to be a starting point for a game which you will then expand. I love the idea of being able to be different insects - termites, ants, bees! There is a lot of room for imagination in this setting.
I see what you mean by once you get bigger there would be no point after that right, well i was thinking of adding human ai that trys to kill you with spray and being hit with a slipper etc, so you have to avoid that to , my game would be 3d to in like a huge barn or something so there is plenty of room for web building etc..
I think you posted this earlier and I still feel the same way about it. It doesn't have enough depth for an MMO. The spider idea is interesting, but I think more as a tool for transport, like dropping down from heights. I think building a web sounds kind of tedious. Simulations can be pretty limiting. Spiders don't really do much. It's kind of a nice jumping off point, but if it were me, I would make them alien spiders so I wouldn't have the limitations that spiders have. You could have them fire weapons from their legs or give them xray heat vision or something, and they could be smart enough to form societies.
Also, where are you going on this? I think you basically are at the same place when you put it up more than a year ago. Shouldn't you be working on a prototype in Unity or something?
