In the asio initializing program i copied, and can still run, it detects my usb headset on init of asio, but when I copied the code into my program and converted it, I cant detect the headset anymore. what could I be missing in the code conversion?

Are you checking all the error codes and suchlike? Are you linking to the right libraries?
You'll probably need to post your code, else we're just shooting in the dark.

funny thing is i brought up the console, blue screened, restarted, and then it started working. ???
anyway, just one more question, do you know how asio stores the samples in the input buffer for the microphones, my foldback is sounding pretty crackly, i tried a coefficient and it got the amplitude right but still its like 1 bit or something.

asio - at least with asio4all - requires full control of the sound hardware, so if you have anything that has the hardware open (and plenty of programs keep it open even if they are not actively playing anything), the open fails..
Personally I've "solved" this by buying a cheap USB sound thingy which I don't use in any programs except the ones that use asio.
