I'm roaming the internet for the last few weeks looking for a 2d/2.5d mmorpg engines. I've checked out the engines database on this site and on the wikipedia. And pretty much all engines that i could find, that appear to be close to what i need, but i cant seem to locate a engine that satisfies my requirements.
Me and my graphics designer were developing a browser based rpg, but we would like the sequel to be a application rather than browser based game.
We're looking to create a classic jrpg game look (top down view, real time battles), similar to the first zelda games, phantasy star series (sega genesis) and other similar games.
The main features i would like to have are:
- engine/framework that is designed from the start to be used in mmorpgs
- ultimately a 2.5d, 2d over d3d engine
- with possibility of including the source code (open source by default, or via payment)
- free or up to 500\\$ in cost, or some kind of revenue sharing
- preferably a c# or c++ based client. C++ based server.
- with scripting engine, lua or custom
Oh and if the engine is closed source, the more features it has the better
That's pretty much all!
Thanks in advance for your responses!
In my days as student some partners developed a nice and cool 2D mmorpg using Arianne they develop the entire game in about 6 months. I don't know if the engine works for you, about the graphics on the site, remember that the aspect depends 90% of your graphic artist.
Hope this helps
Im afraid that this engine is using java, we prefer a engine using c#/c++.
Although everything that matches most of the requirements and is worth looking seems to be written in either vb6 or java
It's java, but I remember a few months ago I played a Open Source MMORPG with isometric graphics, as soons as I find it I let you know, itś written in c++, I guess you can take a look if spanish sites are not a problem for you.
Hope this one helps
I have no idea how to read/speak spanish But ill try the google translator.
Sadly the Evidyon engine seems like a full 3d engine, i preffer to stay away from full 3d. Since open source engines tends to be very heavy on the pc requirements when using full 3d engines. Plus we do not have the man power to work our project on a full blown 3d engine.
But still if you find anything interesting ill be glad if you share it, thanks again!
Possibly look at FIFE. Also, take a look at some 2d c++ libraries like Alegro, which will help get you started. I think SFML has networking code and a sprite library.
You might also want to look at SmartFoxServer for networking code. Doing a google search for isometric engines will yield better results than asking on a site like this.
