I was greeted to a pleasant surprise this morning in my inbox. Unreal Engine 4 is available. For about \$20 dollars a month, and about 5% of the royalties, you get access to the full source code.

Yup, news came out yesterday morning, reddit has been abuzz.
From reading through the UE4 EULA you find that you don't have to keep paying the subscription fee, you can cancel your subscription and continue to use the version you paid for and downloaded.
This license is the most flexible seen in the gaming industry for a game engine, it should shake things up quite a bit. This is HUGE news.

what there doing with unreal by letting you build relationships from the user inerface instead of coding in a notepad like editor. has been years in the making. I pointed this out when 3d max introduced reaction manager in 2004 or 05. the speed that is gained from this approach is too great. flat out cant be ignored. and for the most part spelling and punction errors are eliminated. unreal will be the first engine to cash in on this approach but I doubt they will be the last
